From a dozen or so years, WEiF has been continuously conducting research on the cross-border cooperation in Middle Eastern Poland, which, on the one hand, aims at theoretical development, while on the other hand, at analysis of practical dimension of cross-border. Due to the geopolitical location of Podlaskie Voivodeship, WEiF is naturally predisposed to conducting such scientific research and organizing various kinds of enterprises within this research area and such potential is fully realised. Conducted research has realizes priorities of Border University Network functioning since 2013. One of the outcomes is the research on the foreign trade of the Podlaskie Voivodeship through the utilisation of data from Analytical Centre of the Customs Administration of Customs Chamber in Warsaw. The results of the research involve 10 scientific publications, including the monograph “Trade Exchange of the Podlaskie Voivodeship after Accession to the European Union”, edited by J. Grabowiecki (Bialystok, 2012). Within the research on the cross-border cooperation in 2000-2015, 7 cyclical international scientific conferences were organised with the participation of researchers from several dozen scientific centres in Poland, Belarus, Lithuania, and Russia. The periodicity of organizing conferences has allowed the creation of permanent forum for the exchange of research results and scientific discussion around the issue of cross-border cooperation. In 2012, a grant was realised from Polish-American Freedom Foundation (RITA-2002-12) entitled “Poland's economic cooperation with the Baltic countries, Belarus and Russia - Kaliningrad District”. The workers of WEiF are key opinion leaders of events connected with dynamically changing economic situation in the region of Middle and Eastern Europe by commenting on them in national and regional media.
